Mike Pennington, a product expert for Meguiar's Car Care Products, gave Bankrate a step-by-step method for cleaning a car's surface without water and without scratching it.
Tips #1. For the average-size car, you'll need three to five high-quality, microfiber towels, plus a bottle of waterless car-wash cleaner from a maker of your choice. One bottle will last for three or four cleanings.
Tips #2. Liberally mist the waterless cleaner onto one section of the car at a time. Since most grime is on the lower part of the car, start at the roof and other high sections of the car and work downward.
Tips #3. Using a clean microfiber towel, wipe the car where you just sprayed. The solution will lift the dirt and grime, transferring it to the towel.
Tips #4. Continue spraying the waterless cleaner onto the car, working toward the lowest sections of the vehicle. When a section of the towel gets dirty, fold it to a clean portion to prevent scratches. Use a new towel when it is completely dirty.
Tips #5. Wipe the car with a clean rag to lift any remaining moisture from the solution and reduce haze. There should be only minimal dirt visible on the towel. If the towel gets dirty, fold it to a clean section and continue working.
